Welcome! I'm delighted you're considering tutoring for your child. Here's everything you need to know about how I work.
I ask for payment upfront via bank transfer before each session. You can choose what works best for you:
Pay as you go - Pay before each individual lesson
Pay in advance - Pay monthly upfront (many parents find this easier)
Please keep payments up to date - I'm unable to continue with sessions if previous payments are outstanding. If payment becomes persistently delayed, I may need to pause or end our tutoring arrangement.
I completely understand that life happens! Here's how cancellations work:
Please give me 24 hours notice if you need to cancel. This allows me to try to reschedule your session, though I can't always guarantee availability.
Emergencies happen - If your child is suddenly unwell or you have a family emergency, just let me know as soon as you can. I handle these situations flexibly for my regular clients.
Same-day cancellations or no-shows - If a session is cancelled on the same day or your child doesn't attend, I do need to charge for that session. I'll try to offer a replacement slot if I have availability that week, but can't guarantee it.
Planned absences - If you know about holidays or other commitments in advance, please let me know when you book or pay so I can adjust accordingly.
If your child joins the session late, we'll make the most of the remaining time together. The full session fee still applies, as I've kept that time available for them.
For online tutoring to work well, I ask that:
Your child is dressed appropriately (as they would be for school)
They're in a quiet space with minimal distractions
A parent or guardian is at home during the session (you don't need to be in the room)
Their camera stays on so we can have a proper lesson together
If we have technical difficulties, I'll keep teaching for whatever time remains. If connection problems last more than 15 minutes total, we'll reschedule for another time that week.
Your child's engagement:
Arriving ready to learn and participating actively
Completing any homework we agree on
Treating our sessions with respect
Parents/guardians:
Supporting your child's learning between sessions
Letting me know about any concerns promptly
Providing necessary materials and resources
What I'll provide:
High-quality, personalised teaching
Clear communication about progress
Patience, encouragement, and subject expertise
A note on grades: While I'm committed to helping your child achieve their best, I can't guarantee specific exam results or grades. Success depends on many factors including effort, school support, and individual circumstances.
If expectations aren't being met, I'll always discuss this with you first. If issues continue, I may need to pause or end our tutoring with one week's notice.
My holidays - I'll let you know about any planned time off well in advance.
If I'm unwell - I'll either reschedule your session within the same week, or give you a full refund.
I'm always happy to chat! Please contact me directly if anything comes up. I aim to sort out any concerns quickly and informally.
